In July 2026, the FCC finally answered the question the industry has been circling since the Lower C-band auction closed: what happens to the rest of the band?

The Commission's order clears 160 megahertz of Upper C-band spectrum (3.98–4.14 GHz) for auction by July 2027, bridging it with the Lower C-band to create a single 440 megahertz "super band." For broadcasters still leaning on satellite capacity in that spectrum, the sunset has just moved from theoretical to scheduled, with wireless services live in the top 75 markets by December 2030.
